We love the Pavilion building, and the lantern that can be seen by many in the surrounding area. Sadly, the current building is in a very poor condition and we desperately want it brought back to its former glory, but with sensitive modern upgrades and improvements that will ensure its future.

  • Front elevation

We will maintain the original frontage which will look over the park. To the right we will have a window which will be a hatch for people to pick up takeaway food and beverages.

  • Rear elevation

A modern entrance which will provide a striking gateway in to Darwin Green from Huntingdon Road. Extending to the rear allows for a large modern toilet block and space for families and friends to gather inside.

  • Site plan

This image details the proposed site plan. Sensitive landscaping will be undertaken to ensure that the hard and soft landscaping accords with the wider site and in particular the relationship to Pavilion Green (and the adjacent park). There will be plenty of cycle parking, especially for cargos used by so many local families.

  • Internal space on the ground floor

We want to run an open plan café on the ground floor providing food and drink to either have in or takeaway. The aim is to provide healthy food which appeals to adults and children. There is an intention to provide both soft and limited alcoholic drinks, but not to have a late licence.

  • Internal Space on the first floor

On the first floor will be two large rooms which will provide classes that will appeal to those using the family café such as baby massage, antenatal classes, adult yoga and pilates. A smaller room is proposed to be used for 1-to-1 sessions. The spaces on this floor would also be available to rent for children’s parties, events and meetings.

  • View of the front

Our intention is to maintain and restore the existing frontage. Harnessing the original and unique character of the building. The kindercafe also positively engages and integrates with the adjoining public open space at the heart of the ‘Pavilion Quarter’ of the Darwin Green development.

  • View of the back

Contemporary additions to the rear of the building create a welcoming and dynamic approach from Huntingdon Road whilst preserving the pavilion’s principal elevation, facing the play area. The additions are deliberately soft and curved, and set under a gently sweeping roof, in contrast to the hard-edged existing building, drawing visitors in and resolving access issues with a gentle, ramped approach. The pavilion roof form remains entirely visible, with restored dormers, stacks and lantern.

  • View arriving from huntingdon Road

The new Southern entrance is set between two curved, timber clad walls, and ramps gently up to ground floor level. A modest ancillary building runs along the Eastern boundary, and extensive cycle parking and new gardens line the Southern boundary.

Both the ancillary building and the cycle parking will have native wildflower roofing. To the left, the new play café connects to its gardens with a series of playful windows, offering views of planting and sustainable drainage features.
